Practising music: be nosy!
We spoke to Executive Director Irma de Jong, to hear the backstage stories of the iClassical Academy recordings. For each Master Teacher she has a nice, personal story. Find below why Peter Frankl encourages his students to be nosy, when practising music!
“Have you ever been in springtime to Lake Maggiore? It’s a symphony of blossoming flowers like magnolia, roses, rhododendrons, azaleas and lilacs. A blessing for the eye and the nose, unless….you’re allergic!
Peter Frankl came to us in May for the recordings of his Liszt, Haydn and Brahms Masterclasses. Originally from Hungary, but living almost all of his life in England, we enjoyed his warm spoken English with the taste of Hungarian roots.
Peter is a friendly, calm and humorous teacher, who enjoys enormously working with young talents. He was surprised to find a beautiful villa amidst a colourful and blossoming garden and took early morning walks before starting the sessions. Right after the first recordings and lunch, Peter began to feel not so well, sneezing, little headache. Oh no we thought, he will not have caught a cold? Marta, our villa manager, rushed to the pharmacy. When she described the symptoms, they smiled and said: “Could it be that this person suffers from a springtime allergy?”
Peter said he never had this in his whole life. But, there is a first time for everything! With the right medicine, we got him back on his feet. After the beautiful recordings, a stroll in the surroundings of the lake with Marta was his well-deserved award!”
